How to Gain More Followers

I was thinking to myself.. there are sure fire ways to Gain Followers and sure fire ways to Scare People Away.

Here is a list I came up with this morning while pondering the whole idea of gaining followers.

For one, it is the quality of followers that really matters in an online business, not necessarily the number..

Guaranteed ways to Scare People Away!

  1. I feel like this is the Worst Offender.. Posting a Link right on Someone’s Wall without building a Relationship or Even Introducing Yourself. Someone’s wall is like their home. If you want to share something with them of high quality or something they would enjoy, then you can share that, but do not hit someone’s wall with your business link!
  2. Tagging someone in Facebook in a Video or Photo if you don’t even know them. Some people don’t even know how to take that tag off and when you tag them, it goes right to their profile as if it were there Video or Photo!
  3. Using someone’s wall to post a link so that many other people will see it! Many people are taught to post on other peoples’ walls if they have a large following, so that all those people will see it too. This is just plain rude.
  4. Posting a Negative comment on someone’s link, page, or wall. Negativity permeates.
  5. Having five to ten links of your own on  your profile SCREAMS that you are all over the place.

Very Good Points! …many people are HIGHLY offensive in their full on assault upon getting you to accept their friend request.

I have defriended and hidden COUNTLESS over zealous marketer types.

I think biz people forget that MOST people don’t want crazy amounts of propaganda posted EVERYWHERE!

My biggest piece of advice to people would be to “Pick and Choose”… like you’re talkin’ about… people see right through you if you’re all over the place.

When posting on people’s FB walls… It’s not all about you and your link. LOL!

    Hi Melissa,

Just wanted to say thank you for the encouragement so far. I think you are awesome & am so happy we met :-)

    Hugs,

  6. True on all of the above. The biggest givers are focused on the other person. This is the natural way to flow into relationships. We all love to talk about ourselves so encourage others to share – right?

I too hate that I have to drop people who just don’t get it but if they are on your page they reflect back on you. Appreciate the tips Melissa :)

  7. Hi Melissa,

I just stumbled on your website from Sue and Steve’s FB page. Great video and excellent tips. I use Google Alerts already and it’s fantastic. Also, I use the Gmail Labels to help organize the incoming alerts since I’m involved in various niches. It can get hard to keep things organized. without them.

Regarding your vids, I noticed you use TalkFusion? Is that better than posting using YouTube? Thanks in advance and hope you have time to address this question.

    Cheers,
    Anthony

    Hey Everyone!

Thanks so much for your great comments here! It is so important to build those relationships with people!

@Anthony – The Talk Fusion video technology is truly amazing, I can record videos on my computer (upload them to youtube of course for traffic) and send them as video emails, post them on my fusion wall and fusion blog and also share them on over 200 networks.

Check it out, I do have a link on my recommendations page, but here it is again:

I love Talk Fusion even just for video emails. ;)

  10. Hello Melissa,

This is a great post and I totally agree with your points. Building strong social media relationships is all about building trust and credibility and has nothing to do with being rude and spamming.

Watching people’s behaviour tells a lot indeed about people’s immediate needs and the way they work. Some behaviours can even damage the brand they want to promote.

    To your continued success Melissa!

There is good advice here. There is a fine line between authentic marketing and plain old spam. Temptation can cause us to stray.
    Thank you!

Commenting on Facebook Group and Fan Pages garners more response from people over time than to simply go in all guns blazing for sure. Great advice here and thanks for sharing Melissa.

Looking forward to watching the video.
