How do you know who to listen to?

Q:

How do you know who to listen to? Everyone seems to have some surefire leads list, or all the best-kept secrets of mlm millionaires, or the insider sponsoring secrets or the latest system.  Then it turns out to be an offer for an affiliate program  (which I don’t mind someone getting paid to recommend something if it really works) or some other nwm company.

I’m on information overload. Even if all the information was  good information I don’t know where to start. And I’m spending too much time online doing this and not enough time building my business. How do you find the balance?

A:

Who do you know to listen to?
Well, I can guarantee that 99 percent of the time, when you see a landing page with Click Here for More Information, there is some form of monetization behind it. Now, there are 1% of folks who do really offer great training and value for free. Look for things like videos they offer on youtube, a personal email to contact them, a phone number or a skype ID even. If they are open and personable, you can tell… when there is a landing page, without any contact information and it just keeps clicking through to pages like, buy this, and wait, I have an offer… you really need to make a decision. Is the training really valuable enough to purchase? What training are you truly needing? Are you looking for training to get more leads to your business?

The answer to that is very simple.

You get more leads to you but moving into full action. The more you do, the more visible you are, the more you offer, the more people you talk to, the more leads you will have.

I am hosting a free training, yes, free… it isn’t published yet, but will be soon. It is a seven day course in putting your network marketing business on the “net”. When it is complete, you should look at it.

Now, I say this, I offer a ton of training for free to my contacts. I build relationships and I offer a lot for nothing. My seven day training is free. No strings attached.

It will help me build relationships.

Look for people who do the same, offer to help without anything in return… There are some of us out there.

You really bring up a critical point in Internet Marketing…just how does one KNOW who to listen to? I can tell you that purchasing training from one guru and then the next is not the way. What you find is that they are basically all repackaging and peddling the same old thing, just with a different style or flair. And another thing I’ve noticed is that much of the training is designed to get you 80 percent of the way where you want to go, not 100 percent. So you’re still left looking for solutions after the training. And it becomes a vicious cycle of buy, learn, buy, learn.

FAR BETTER to find someone like MELISSA, build some TRUST and build a solid business relationship with her, then have someone in your corner that you can trust to give you SOLID, helpful and RELIABLE advice.

So true Melissa I can’t agree with you more ‘information overload.’ Your blog post is three years to late for me I’ve spent a cool fortune on training. I hope the new people reading this take notice because the free training your giving at http://prosperwiththegals.weebly.com is solid and rocks! So I for one can’t wait for your 7 day bootcamp

Thanks Melissa for answering what I have been asking myself for weeks (months) now. We all know what we need to do, and we know this is not get rich quick and there are no short-cuts…. and yet we keep looking for them.

I love this conversation! And why do you think we keep looking for the “get rich quick” method? Think about it. You really think it is you or me personally? Or a response to marketing hype that we are exposed to in posts, articles, emails, safe lists, autoresponders, etc, etc… what are your thoughts?

    Melissa

Put it all in perspective. It is hard to do and the best of us get swayed at times as well. Just think about things this way. When you see an opportunity or tool that looks interesting, how long will it really be around. Do you see it being there for you for 1 year, 3, 5, or 10? Pick the one that will at least be with you 5 to 10 years..

Melissa, thanks for writing this post. I have found myself on several different “Leaders” lists and I made a decision to unsubscribe all but two just to keep some balance in the information that I’m recieving. Great info, timely post. Thanks again.

Why do we keep looking for the “get rich quick” method? I think it’s a combination of the economy, and so many people out of work and needing to replace their income. So the predatory scammers know this and prey on it. It’s also all marketing hype and the feeling that if I don’t jump on I will miss the boat because after all they have “proof” that it works and what I am doing is taking too long. And preying on the idea that I don’t want to be one of the 95% or 97% who F.A.I.L. And after all they are standing in front of that expensive car parked in the driveway of a mansion, so they must be successful and have all the answers, right??

  9. It is so refreshing to find someone out there who offers excellent training for free. In the past I have noticed marketers offer training with such extreme prices and it is easy to get caught in the trap so to speak. So you end up spending way more than you bargained for. I also agree that they tend to be ‘peddling’ the same information and you get 80% of the help, not 100% despite the cost of training. So thank you Melissa, for offering free training, excellent support and trust! Sincerely, Jill skype: jillannbromwich

  12. HI Melissa,
Overload is an understatement in the world of Internet Marketing! I think it’s important that we all remember that we are getting an education here, and part of education is learning how to weed out what courses and instructors aren’t a good fit for you. The bottom line is, as you so correctly pointed out in your close, people do business with people. Systems are terrific only if you know how to use them to help others. If they are all about you and you only, they won’t get you very far.
Thanks for an honest and powerful post!

Hi Mary Lou! Thanks for coming by to join in our conversation. This is such an important issue right now, as so many people get wrapped up in the hype and the “one week wonders” as I call them. So we are left with, what businesses do we choose? What people to we choose to work with? It is an important question, as it is so easy to get wrapped up in the one week wonders.

    Hi Melissa,
Great topic. You said it when you pointed out that it is people who make the difference, not systems. Everyone has something to sell, but when considering who you will “follow” or ultimately purchase from, it should be someone who you have gottent to know and like, and someone who is reachable and available.

  19. Hello Melissa,

Thank you for this post. I have been in network marketing full time now for 25 years and full time for most that time. We have always said, we’re not doing the business not unless we are in front of decision making people.

Most the teams I have created were done offline. I only starting delving into internet marketing and social media in the last year and half.

I have to say, some of the internet marketers I have spoken to, are making most their money from affiliate programs while their network marketing business seems to be languishing.

Not only are there numerous skills sets to develop and learn with internet marketing and by virtue of of the nature of teaching people to create multiple incomes streams, you get an avalanche of training systems for sale.

It really does come down to creating a game plan, finding a trusted mentor and then sticking with your plan.

You are wise to give so much value for free. Our business is all about creating relationships. Thank you for being a sane voice in all the internet noise.

I love what you wrote at the very end about looking for people. I truly believe that. Focus on creating value and connecting, not making money from a system. Awesome post!
